Alternative NewsPapers on Salt Spring Island

Way back in the early 90's there appeared a formidable contender in the form of a monthly called Starlinks Viewspaper published primarly through the efforts of Mauveen Moore and which had a good run of a dozen or so issues. I was fortunate enough to design cover art for all of their issues. Here is a slideshow of those covers from April 1993 to the Summer of 1994. For those who were around at the time, enjoy the memories.

It was a lot of fun, filled with freewheeling writing and satire but history shows that many attempts to provide an alternative newspaper on Salt Spring Island have failed to survive the limited advertising market that supports such ventures and in this arena the Driftwood has continued their reign for may decades.
